- What makes packaging truly sustainable?
- Truly sustainable packaging satisfies three criteria: responsibly sourced raw materials (e.g. FSC-certified paperboard or post-consumer recycled PCR resin), operational efficiency during converting (low-VOC bio-inks, low scrap), and verified circular end-of-life recovery (curbside recyclable, industrial or home compostable, or reusable format).
- What is the difference between compostable, biodegradable, and recyclable packaging?
- Recyclable packaging can be collected, processed, and remanufactured into new materials (such as mono-PE or corrugated fiber). Compostable packaging breaks down into non-toxic organic matter under specific microbial conditions (EN 13432 / ASTM D6400). 'Biodegradable' without a standard certification is often misleading, as it does not specify the timeline or environmental conditions required for breakdown.
- How do you verify a vendor's sustainability claims?
- Certificates are verified directly with issuing bodies and registries, not accepted as unverified PDFs. FSC Chain of Custody codes are validated against the public FSC database, BRCGS directories are queried, and certificate expiry dates are diarised so a lapsed certificate removes a vendor from matching automatically.
- What counts as zero waste to landfill in packaging facilities?
- A converting facility diverting at least 99% of operational waste from landfill through recycling, reuse, composting, or energy recovery, verified with weighed waste receipts and certified third-party disposal documentation.
- Are bio-inks and water-based inks a like-for-like replacement?
- For most paper, cartonboard, and corrugated applications, yes. Vegetable-based and water-based ink systems have known performance gaps on non-porous films and extreme cold-chain friction, so we qualify inks against application stress tolerances rather than generic marketing claims.
- What is Looppack's carbon-neutral commitment?
